As an event professional, I awoke to yesterday’s news knowing that so many questions about security at outdoor events and hotel security and risk management and crisis planning will be raised in the coming weeks and months. The safety and security of our guests should be at the forefront of the minds of anyone in the hospitality industry, and the tragedy in Las Vegas will have a deep impact on the conversations we will have to have.
As a human being, I awoke to yesterday’s news with tremendous sadness and grief for the victims and their loved ones, hope for those who are wounded, and love for everyone who escaped physically unharmed.
There will be plenty of time for me to be an event professional and have the necessary conversations and make the necessary adjustments in my planning process. But, for today, I choose to be a human and feel all of the emotions that I do. Today, I choose to think about everyone personally impacted and the many people I know in Las Vegas, and I wish them peace and healing.
